What is being proposed?
It is hoped that the play will tour theatres in cities with the strongest historical links to the slave trade in the Spring of 2007.
Your help needed
Help Africa Snow make an impact.
There is a three-stage development plan for Africa Snow and contributions are needed at each stage:
- The Seed Fund: script development and initial design budget - £20,000 needed
- The Production Fund: funding of our side of co-productions with major hosting theatres - £100,000
- The Impact Fund: ensuring the fullest possible impact for a play that powerfully raises contemporary justice and spiritual issues, through local events and advocacy projects (national and international) - £175,000
It is expected that once the play is on tour ticket sales will generate funding.
To capitalise on this interest, CMS will
- produce educational materials
- organise local events
- co-ordinate advocacy responses
- provide some funding for projects (in the UK and overseas), to ensure slavery is tackled where it is found and to address the underlying causes.
Riding Lights will also provide educational opportunities to support the touring production.
How many people might a large tour of the production reach?
In the first four months the large-scale tour could reach up to 128,000 theatregoers.
However, once the play is on tour, much of this money would be generated from ticket sales. We expect the play to be popular and ticket sales to be high. There is also the prospect of the play having a longer life than its initial UK tour, in London or even internationally.
