Please
help!
At
any given time, CMS-supported projects are helping more than 700 people
around the world find true freedom from addiction.
We cannot continue to do this without your help.
After looking at the information presented on this website, we
invite you to consider giving to support CMS's work with addictions.
To what do you think you are most addicted? Is it Diet
Coke, chocolate, going shopping or to the cinema? Why not give
it up for 40 days and give what you have saved in doing so to
CMS?
With all that time that you have saved not going shopping or in leisure
activities, is there something you could do to raise money?
Recently, people have trekked across the
Sinai Desert, climbed Kilimanjaro and cycled across Britain, all to raise
money for CMS.
You could get sponsored for giving something up —
why not get sponsored to give up TV for a month?
Organising a sponsored event is easy — and ideal for churches or
groups because everyone can get involved. All those who don't wish
to take part in the activity can sponsor those who are taking part.
Give it away
If you really want to change your life, you could sell some of those things
to which you are addicted.
Think of how much could be done with the proceeds from the sale of your
X-Box 360.
Get involved
There are lots of events that you could organise with a group of friends,
or at church.
CMS partner Exodus works with drug addicts in Russia — so why not
hold a Russian-themed evening?
Or take your lead from our partners Islamabad Christians against Narcotics,
and host a Pakistan-themed meal?
Closer to home, 'the Church on the Streets team' comes from Manchester
— how about having a hot-pot supper?
For all these events you could charge people for coming, and donate the
profits to CMS.
There are lots of recipes and suggestions from around the world on the
Internet if you are stuck for ideas.
At the end of the evening, you could play chocolate-themed games
— like this one:
The Chocolate Hat and Gloves Game Equipment:
A big bar of chocolate (a Fair Trade one of course!)
A metal knife and fork
A woolly hat
A scarf
Gloves
Dice (at least one)
At least six people
Get everyone to sit in a circle and place the chocolate, knife and fork,
hat, gloves and scarf in the middle of the circle. Each person takes
a turn to roll the dice. When someone rolls a 6, he or she goes
to the middle and has to put on the hat, scarf and gloves before cutting
up the chocolate into individual squares and eating as much as possible.
Meanwhile, the dice is still passed round the group. As soon as
someone else rolls a 6, he or she takes over and puts on the scarf and
gloves, etc. To make it more challenging, you can have more than
one dice on the go at once (especially in bigger groups).
Some people can't resist showing off what they know, so why not hold a
quiz night and charge an entrance fee?
All you need is a quizmaster, some refreshments and a prize for the winners.
You could have a quiz about the countries where CMS is tackling
addiction, on chocolate, or the theme of addiction itself.
If you can't do a whole evening, how about holding an afternoon
tea, or a coffee morning?
Alternatively, you could hold a chocolate-themed 'bring and buy'
sale — to which everyone brings along something made of
chocolate to sell: chocolate cake, chocolate cookies, chocolate brownies,
chocolate trifle — makes you hungry even thinking about it, doesn't
it?
You could also auction things at the end of a church
service.
If you want to do something more long term, why not set up a stall
at the back of your church every Sunday? You can sell items like
chocolate and other confectionery, and give the profits from such sales
to CMS.
