Protest Communion Liturgy and Stencils

This liturgy stencils were used at the Greenbelt Communion service in 2003. The stencils were done on large white bed sheets and served as a backdrop that helped unpack the services theme of 'protest'. The liturgy was used throughout the service at Greenbelt and contains suggested music tracks at the end. Together the stencils and liturgy made for a very powerful service.

You may wish to use the stencils in a regular Communion service in which the bread and the wine can become symbols of both the oppression of Jesus and his solidarity with those who are oppressed, or you could use them in conjunction with the liturgy.

Alternatively, you could use them in youth-group activities to help people visually to understand how Jesus’ death identifies him with those who are marginalised and poor.

For help using the stencils see here for a guide.

You yourself will undoubtedly think of other creative spaces in which you could use them - so enjoy!
