Places on Praxis group visits for 2006 are now filled.  Do, however, contact us if you are interested in receiving details about Praxis opportunities for 2007, which will include visits to Ghana and Russia.

Who are CMS Praxis visit for?

Praxis visits are for:

•  committed Christians who have a spirit of adventure
•  are fascinated by other countries and cultures
•  are keen to get more than a tourist’s view of a country
•  are interested to see how being a follower of Jesus works out in other places
•  are interested to learn from the experience of Christians throughout the world
•  and maybe are in need of a fresh boost of enthusiasm in their faith journey.

  What age are Praxis participants?

Praxis is for British citizens usually over 25 years of age. There is no age limit (participation is subject to good health).

  What will I do?

Praxis gives you the opportunity to connect with Christians who are seeking to make a difference in often challenging situations around the world.

It enables you to get behind the headlines of another country’s news and find out more about what is going on at a grassroots level.

This will usually involve meeting Christians, learning about their life, discovering and discussing issues that affect them, and visiting projects that they are engaged in.

Praxis visits are not about doing, but about interacting, learning, and reflecting.

We believe that these Praxis visits could be life changing. As we meet with other Christians and see their spirituality, vitality and struggles, our own faith and practice can be challenged and enriched.

  Who will I go with?

You will be part of a group of usually up to 10 people. All Praxis groups have a group leader with cross-cultural experience.

Can I form my own Praxis group?

Yes. CMS facilitate Praxis visits for churches. CMS seek to encourage and equip churches to become more globally connected and locally engaged, and believe that cross-cultural visits afford important opportunities for doing so.

Your church may wish to establish a link with another part of the global church, or you may already support CMS work elsewhere in the world and wish to build upon an existing link.

  How long are Praxis visits?

Praxis visits are usually 2 weeks to 18 days in length.

What Praxis visits are planned for 2006?

So far, plans are being made for a visit to Romania (mid September for 2 weeks) and to Kenya (end of August/September, for 2 weeks). Further details of these visits, and others that may be planned, will be posted when further information becomes available.

  How much will it cost?

Praxis visits usually cost between £950 to £1400 depending on the Praxis location. This includes your airfare, visa, transport on location, accommodation, meals, and briefing and debriefing days in the UK - only your insurance, medical/vaccination costs and spending money are not included. CMS can provide fundraising advice.

What preparation takes place for a visit?

CMS seek to enable people to explore cross-cultural situations sensitively and effectively, and to become reflective practitioners.

Each Praxis group will participate in a briefing day a few weeks prior to a Praxis visit. A CMS member of staff will brief the group fully with regard to all aspects of the visit, including an exploration of cross-cultural issues, and it is an opportunity to get to know the group members and leader better.

Each Praxis group will also participate in a debriefing day a few weeks after returning from a visit which enables participants to further reflect, review and apply what has been learnt from the experience.

  How do I apply?

We hope you are interested in joining a Praxis group. For further information or to receive an application form, e-mail your name, address, and other contact details to Praxis or telephone (020) 7803 3326
