| Why
have CMS picked the theme ‘Restoring the Image’? Because we are all made in the image of God, but that image is broken, distorted. The good news is it’s there — and God is longing to restore it, in all of us. Jesus made it possible, living: showing us what the image of God looks like when it’s fully allowed to flourish in a human being; and dying: as the Bible says, ‘by his wounds we are made whole’. The images in the gallery reflect people’s brokenness, and show how lives can be torn apart. Yet the accompanying story reflects the love of Christ in action, whether this be in the slums of Kibera, or working with people who have HIV or AIDS in India: a love that desires to make all things new, to restore those who are broken, and see them made whole again. It’s about becoming who we are: children of God, made in his image, following Jesus.
At this summer’s Christian festivals, CMS continued to highlight
the war in northern Uganda, asking what it would take to restore
the image of God in this devastated people. At Greenbelt, visitors
to the CMS venue made their own clay sculptures in response an exhibition
of sculptures made by former child soldiers in northern Uganda.
