‘Cwa’ Crosses
from Kitgum

Made by young people in Kitgum, who have fled the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels, these crosses are a powerful symbol of the Ugandan people’s resilience in suffering and the invincibility of God’s creation.

The crosses are made from the branches of the Cwa tree, which are thin, flexible and tough. They are used as instruments of torture by the rebels, who thrash the hands of their captives with them.

Buying a Cwa cross helps CMS to fund peace and reconciliation work in Northern Uganda. The crosses are supplied with ideas for you and your church to use the crosses in creative ways.

The Cwa crosses cost £1.50 each plus 50p for postage and packing but there’s a discount if you buy in bulk. 100 crosses cost £70 + £6 p&p. Prices for other quantities are available on request.
