The
Clarke family are living
in Accra, Ghana and are teaching in the Good News Bible College and
seminary, a theological training institute set up and run by the Organisation
of African Independent Churches. |
In addition, Clifton and Marcia are involved in establishing a Theological
Education by Extension (TEE) programme, which will allow some of the leaders
and ministers in African Independent Churches, to benefit from in-service
training and to engage in theological reflection during their ministries.
Clifton and Marcia have coordinated conferences for pastors and church
workers on leadership issues and rural mission.
Last summer in Accra, Marcia organised a conference for Christian businesswomen
called ‘Sellers of Purple’ (after Lydia, the dealer in purple cloth mentioned
in Acts), ‘to encourage the women to include Christian principles in their
business dealings, and to think about what God has to say, if anything,
about Christians in business’.
Ghana has few large industries, a poorly paid public sector, and it’s
largely the women who have established small to medium-sized businesses
to augment their income.
They are also regular street evangelists—in one shanty town, former England
basketball international Clifton and his son Joel, started coaching local
children in the game. They mentored one young boy, and through his influence
saw fifteen young people come to Christ and much of the drug abuse in
the park stopped through the peer evangelism of these young people.
