Northern Uganda:
Take action.

28,000 children abducted;
12,000 in the last two years.
1.6 million people displaced
and living in camps.

44,000 children ‘commuting’ into towns each night, too afraid to sleep in their villages.

Keep up the pressure on the British government — one of Uganda’s largest donors — to use its influence to move the peace process forward.

Ugandan leaders of the campaign are calling for immediate action to avert widespread genocide on a scale such as that seen in Rwanda.

Since their government is unable to meet its duty of protecting life and property in Kitgum and surrounding areas, over a million people in northern Uganda are held in ‘protected villages’ where conditions are such that Bishop Benjamin refers to them as ‘concentration camps’.

Rebel activities are intensifying since the Lord’s Resistance Army is apparently out of control, inflicting seemingly random attacks, killing and raping members of a community living in fear.

Write to your MP at the House of Commons, London, SW1 1AA, asking in your own words what action the British government is taking to

• put pressure on the Ugandan government to increase protection for people living in displacement camps

• ensure that the shortfall in World Food Programme supplies to displaced people’s camps is met

• welcoming the aid given by Britain, what is the British Government doing to ensure food aid from the World Food Programme reaches those in the ‘concentration camps’?

Please write to your MP at The House of Commons, London SW1A OAA.

To check out who your MP is, visit www.locata.co.uk/commons or ring the Parliamentary Information Office on 020 7219 4272.

If you copy your MP’s response to you to CMS, we will pass it on to Bishop Benjamin.

Bishop Benjamin Ojwang thanks those who have already written to their MPs and asks for further action that will “give us hope and determination to continue our campaign”.
