‘Night
commuters’
Every night, up to 30,000 children flood into Gulu and Kitgum towns to sleep on the streets, too frightened to sleep in their villages for fear of abduction. They hope there will be some safety in numbers. Former Bishop of Kitgum, Bishop Ochola Baker, gave a speech in Gulu town’s bus park: “The inability of the government to protect the lives of our children has forced [them] to be here tonight, to be here every night! “We have come to spend the night with them
here to show people in the world that there is a very big problem
